The Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs (FIEP)

The Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs (FIEP) is state institution for development of innovation infrastructure in Russia . It was founded during the reorganization of Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies.

FIEP implements supporting and development of Russian nanotechnology companies. It primarily focuses its activity in following areas: formation of nanotechnology infrastructure, development of human resources for nanoindustry, market development for nanotechnology products, improvement of the legislative framework for innovations, standardization and certification of nanoproducts and evaluation of their safety, popularization of nanotechnology and nano-enabled products.

FIEP is maintaining national network of nanotechnology centers for commercialization of high-tech projects, transforming unique ideas into business plans capable of making headway in a competitive market. 15 nanocenters in 11Russian regions have already created more than 500 startups. Nanocenter shareholders and partners are private companies, regional governments, research institutions, universities, and individual entrepreneurs in cities all over Russia.

FIEP creates engineering companies for design and implementation of nanoproducts and related technologies in different industries. FIEP is working to improve Russia’s system of technical regulations and standards so that innovative technologies can be more widely and easily applied.

FIEP’s educational programs train highly qualified personnel to work in the nanotechnology industry. With FIEP support about 150 new educational programs have kicked off at Russian universities and have already provided specialized training to 53,000 students (both graduates and professionals from Russian industrial enterprises). Several of the country’s leading scientific universities (Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow Institute of Engineering and Physics, Moscow Institute of Steels and Alloys) and Moscow Government have joined forces to create interuniversity educational program for training engineers in hi-tech sphere. About 800 Russian high schools are participating in the RUSNANO School League which promotes best practices in science education.
